Nixle Police eNotifications
The Arroyo Grande Police Department uses Nixle, a free Community Information Service, to keep residents informed about important public safety emergencies and/or community events occurring within our City. Information sent via Nixle is immediately available by text message on your cell phone, by email, and over the web.
Residents are encouraged to opt-in by visiting the Nixle website to create a free account which can be customized so you receive the information that matters most to you, and is relevant to your home or work location.
Nixle Notifications can be sent for a wide variety of reasons. Some of those reasons include emergency evacuation as a result of a natural or man-made disaster such as fire, flood, chemical or biological incident; incidents in which an evacuation would reduce the likelihood of injury or death, e.g. a barricaded suspect or hostage incident; and incidents in which timely notification may result in the safe return of a missing child or at risk adult. Other possible reasons for notification include information about major road closures, detours around construction, public events and more.
When it is determined that a Nixlie Notification is to be sent, the Arroyo Grande Police Command staff creates the message and assigns one of four priority levels; Alert (emergency type alert), Advisory (less urgent need-to-know information), or Community Information (day-to-day neighborhood to community-level information). When the message is sent, it is immediately available for anyone who has subscribe to receive automatic notifications. Residents who have created an account with Nixle will also immediately receive the notification via text message and/or email based upon their account setup, registered locations and preferences.
The Nixle Notification service is secure, private and best of all, is free. To create an account and register your location and contact information go tothe Nixle website.
