City Manager
Responsibilities & Functions
The City Manager serves at the will of the City Council and is responsible for providing them with policy recommendations, staff support and to implementing their directions and decisions. The City Manager is responsible for overseeing day to day operations of the City and appoints professionals to direct departments responsible for a wide variety of services provided to the community. The City Manager is responsible for overall direction and coordination of the City organization to provide services and projects in an efficient manner. The City Manager coordinates with community organizations and individuals to ensure the City is responsive to the community's needs and concerns.
The City of Arroyo Grande is a full-service city operating under the Council-Manager form of government. As such, the City is structured similar to a private corporation. The City Council's role is similar to that of a Board of Directors and the City Manager serves as the Chief Executive Officer, with citizens acting as the shareholders. The City Manager is committed to providing leadership to the organization that promotes professionalism, responsiveness to the community, and decision making focused on addressing both current and future needs. The City Manager is dedicated to addressing financial challenges in a prudent and responsible manner, while maintaining critical services the community depends upon and protecting the community's heritage, natural resources and quality of life.
